Notes from the Director

In 2018 I was honored to become the director of the Heart of Iowa Chorus. I took a huge leap and stepped out of my comfort zone to become a front line director. I have lots of experience as a singer, leader, coached by amazing directors and faculty from our region and International. I've also coached a few quartets and small choruses. I'm excited that I get to share my experience and knowledge with the chorus to help make them better performers and singers. The chorus has a lot of fun singing together, learning together and entertaining audiences throughout the community.

A little bit more about me. At a very young age I was introduced to barbershop music. My parents are both barbershop singers and I couldn't wait until I was old enough to be a barbershop singer. November 1, 1992 my barbershop journey began and I became a member of the Des Moines Chorus now known as the Harmony Central Chorus in Des Moines Iowa. I've held many music and leadership roles as well as being the Assistant and Associate Director for many years with the Harmony Central Chorus. On the regional level, I served as the Directors Coordinator and Director's Certification Program Coordinator on the Regional Management Team for Regions 5. I have sung in several quartets during my time as a Sweet Adelines and I currently sing tenor with Midnight Madness Quartet. I am married and my husband and I reside in Berwick IA, about 45 minutes southwest of Marshalltown IA, where the chorus meets. In my professional life I am a Quality Review Associate II for Principal Bank where I have been employed for 22 years.

The chorus is always looking for singers. If you want to know more about us please contact us and come by for a visit. Our doors are always open.

Thank you,

Charyl
